Capaccio Paestum
Lying across the two raises of mounts Soprano and Sottano, Capaccio’s history begins ai the time of the conflict between Holy Roman empire and the papacy. Then the citizens of Capaccio vecchia. mowed further south founding the new town of Capaccio Nuova. The name probably denves from the Latin words caput aquae. meaning "water source" probably as a reference to the nearby head of the river Accio. But according to another theory, Capaccio might instead come from the word Calpatium which is the Latin name of mount Calpazio. Close to the Town is the archeoligical park of the ancient city of Paestum, awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO. Those who love exploring the countryside can admire the landscape and crystal waters of the springs at Capodifiume. Amongst Capaccio’s many historical buildings, the Convent of Sant’Antonio, with its ampie collection of prerious artwork, is a must see. In the cloister, visitors will find a permanent exhibition dedicated to the city of Paestum as seen by the travellers of the Grand Tour
