Die Gemeinden im Cilento

This town, owes its name to a partkular herb that grows in this area, known locally as Sparto. Two main districts make up the territory of this town: Casaletto Spartano and the nearby area of Battaglia, separated by the local river Casaletto. This location is well known to speleologists for the many underground caverns, like the Vottarino and the Mariolomeo, some of them yet unexplored. Lovers of country walks will find here a wide range of paths, traditionally used to connect the various little villages crossed by the Rio Casaletto, like the Sentiero di Cannati and the path leading to the Sanctuary of Madonna dei Martiri. These paths are very popular and scenic places for excursions. Other must see places are the historical Palace, the church of Saint Nicola di Bari and the ancient portal situated in Via Garibaldi.
