Auletta
The name Auletta probably derives from The Latin word oiea, which means "olive". This theory is supported by The strong olive growing tradition of The town - to this day Auletta is an important producer of fine virgin olive oil. The historic centre is overlooked by The impos-ing Castello Marchesale, The town's castle with its large architectural complex dates back to The 12"' century. Not far from The castle are The other important landmarks of Porta Rivellino, The church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, and The imposing belltower. The town hosts many well preserved palaces, such as Palazzo Mari, where Giuseppe Garibaldi stayed brieflyin 1860.
