Pollica

Pollica lies by the southern slopes of mount Stella and its name originally meant "many houses". The main settlement is at the bottom of a hill which is where the earliest settlement once stood. Pollica is believed to have been first inhabited by settlers from Greece and, subsequently, fell under the control of the Normans and the Lombards. The town centre hosts a 17th century convent with a collection of precious frescoes and canvas paintings, work of a Franciscan master. Those who love scenic walks, must not miss the opportunity to travel along the ancient road which connects Pollica to Acciaroli, down by the sea, to take in the many spectacular views.
