Rofrano
The original nucleus of Rofrano was probably established around the year 1000, developing around the Basilica and the convent of Santa Maria Hodigitria, which was erected here by Italian-Greek monks. The presence of monks in the area carne to an end at the turn of the 15th century when Giuliano della Rovere, soon to be Pope Julius II, sold the monastery and all the surrounding land to the Carafa family, who transformed the convent into a private residence. Of the original structure, only one of the towers still stands today, with its original medieval balcony built-in wood and stone.
