Salento
The town of Salento developed on top of a hill overlooking the valley of the river Alento surrounded by forests, farm houses and qua country roads. The history of the town begins at the time of the lombards when the first settlement was known with the name Salella or Sala di Gioì, as demonstrated by documents found in the Abbey of the S.S. Trinità in Cava dei Tirreni. From its geographical position the views are truly spectacular, overlooking thick forests (known as selva dei Santi - forest of the saints) and reaching far down toward the Tyrrhenian Sea and the castles of Mount Gelbison.
