San Rufo
This town, situated in the Vallo di Diano and over the hill-tops of Spina dell'Ausino and Cocuzzo, probably developed around ancient farmhouse at the beginning of the 10th century. Two century later a relic belonging to Saint Rufus, former bishop of Capua, was brought here by a nobleman, Gabello Pellegrino. The town belong to the descendants of Pellegrino till the 17th century when it pass to new lords, amongst which were the families of Rinaldi a Laviano. The artistic and historic heritage of San Rufo has been partially destroyed but the original structure of the borgo remains along with some interesting buildings dating back to the 17th and 18th century and the ruins of the ancient castle.
