Serramezzana

Serramezzana was first inhabited sometime between the 11th and 12th century. It is probably the smallest municipality of the Cilento region. The lower part of the town is more modem, while the higher town hosts the enchanting little nucleus of historical buildings and offers beautiful views over the surrounding countryside. The main buildings are the Church of San Nicola and the 18th century Palazzo Materazzi, open to visitors by appointment. Its architecture, of remarkable artistic value, has not known any significant alteration. Visitors can also admire Serramezzana tower which was built reusing the stone of an ancient tower in the Greek city of Elea now known as Velia.
