Sessa Cilento

Sessa Cilento lies at the foot of Mount Stella, on the eastern side where the two rivers Fiumana and Alento meet Here, the ruins o some of the ancient watermills of the area are still visible today. The first mention of a place named "Loco Sessa' in this region appears in the year 1187. And it is mentioned by historical sources as "casale Sessa' from the year 1258. The town was famous because of an important market which took place in the old town centre, To this day, in the historical centre. The beautiful medieval architecture with the monumental portals and the palazzos of the local aristocracy can be admired in a remarkable state of preservation. Further along surrounded by quaint alleys and narrow streets, lies the Chapel of Santa Maria della Stella, built in the 12Th century.
