Stio
Stio, just like many other towns in this area. was the result of local inhabitants of the coastal area moving inland or up the mountains be safe against piracy and barbarian invasion. Gathering around the Church of Santa Maria della Croce - where once was a shrine believed lo contain fragments of Christ's cross - the local people settled so deep in the forest that the town didn't need any walls.In the town centre there are still some of the first ancient stone dwellings and, walking along the picturesque little alleys. Visitors can admire the beautiful Churches of San Pietro, 15th century, a San Paolo, and 17th century.
