Vallo della Lucania
The municipality of Vallo della Lucania has always been considered one of the most important centres of the Cilento region. Its history rich and well documented, from its early origins as an importer junction during the roman age. During the 10 years French occupation of the area, this town was established as the headquarters of the French administration and, in the 19th century, became the seat of the local diocese and of an important court of Law. Vallo della Lucania has a wide and rich artistic and architectural heritage, with its the Cathedrals San Pantaleone, completed in the 17th century, the 16th century Santa Maria delle Grazie and the Chapel of the former Tribunale. In the Palazzo Vescovile, the bishop's palace, there is now very interesting museum. Museo Diocesano, which holds great art works belonging to the local diocese. The headquarter of the National Park Commission of Cilento and Vallo di Diano is located in Vallo della Lucania.
