Albanella
Albanella was originally founded by the citizens of Paestum wt carne here to seek refuge from the Saracen incursions. The name probably comes from the words alba (white) and hella (Greece commemorating the Greek heritage of its first inhabitants. Proof of this nave been found in the various sites, such as the ancient sanctuary dedicated to the mythological deities Demetra and Kore and the many tombs belonging to the Hellenistic period.On the coat of arms of the municipality of Albanella are two stars, placed over two cypress trees, representing the two twin cities Paestum and Capaccio, which were destroyed. The town of Albanella is the home of interesting historical building various palazzos, many of which were originally convents, and the churches of San Matteo and Santa Sofia. Also part of this municipality the little frazione of Matinella, which hosts a largo shopping centre.
