Prignano Cilento

The origin of the name Frignano is, possibly, derived from the Latin plinianus - meaning "estate belonging to Pliny" - or, according to some scholars, comes from the Greek perì ghnatos, which means "dose to the narrow passage". Others, finally, suggest that the name refers to the pear trees which grow abundantly in this area. The archaeological park of the famous city of Paestum is oniy 11 km from the main town centre. Mere, visitors to the site can also admire the various archaeological finds in the nearby museum. The oid town centre of Frignano iswellworth a visit, and so is the ancient town of Melito with its well preserved medieval tower. Nature lovers will be able to observe the wildiife by the Alento river, the seasonal migra- tion of various species of birds, and explore the beautifui surrounding countryside, cycling or horseback riding
