The Municipalities of Cilento

The core settlement of this town is a small collection of dwell built in the immediate surroundings of monastery, a Carmelite convent. Originally known as Casalicium and subsequently as Casalicchio, the town became property of the Anjevin King Ladisa Naples in the early 15th century. The municipality of Casal Velino includes four suburbs; the ancient settlement of Acquavella (from which came the waters that supplied aqueduct of Elea) Vallo Scalo, Verduzio and Marina di Casal Velino (a popular beach resort). In the historic centre of Casal Velino are the imposing Torre Antica, old tower, and the Palazzo Baronale. Visitors staying in Marina di Casal Velino should not miss the chance to wander inside the church San Michele Arcangelo, in the chapel of S. Matteo ad Duo Fulmina where, according to a legend, the sacred remains of Saint Mattew were found.
