Laureana Cilento

The town's name comes from "Laura", a word which used to describe a community of hermits that used to gather to worship in very isolated places. Laureana is first mentioned in records in 963. However according to an old legend, Saint Paul converted two young girls here in the site where the church of Maria dell'Acquasanta was erected. The water from the church's well is believed to miraculously cure eye disease. To add charm to this town the local convent of San Francesco, founded by Saint Bernardino of Siena contains many 15th and 18th century artefacts
