Montecorice
Because of its great geographical position, Montecorice has began to attract more and more visitors each year. The town sits on the sea facing side of the coastal mountain chain lying in the shadow of Mount Stella, in the valley of the Rio Roviscelli. Montecorice developed around the monastery of Sant'Angelo from the 10th century onwards. The monks farmed thè land surrounding thè monastery and gradually expanded into the surrounding area thus initiating a thriving agricultural development that has shaped the towns landscape. To this day the valley is scattered with the remains of many windmills built here by the local farmers centuries ago. The town includes six small suburbs, each of them developed from ancient Lombard settlements. These suburbs grew in importance during the feudal age and many aristocratic palazzos were built here, still visible today.
