Bellosguardo
Bellosguardo - which couid he translated as "beautiful view"- certainly lives up to its name. It spreads over green hills, neh in water springs, overlooking the valley of the river Calore, and offers stunninc over the countryside. The local Convent of Santa Maria delle grazie was the home of Giovanni Vincenzo Antonio Ganganelli, better as Pope Clement XIV. The 15th century Church of Santa Maria delle grazie contains a marvellous fresco painted by Giotto's School - depicting the deposition of Christ from the cross - and a precious reliquary datating back to the 15th century. Another important church, San Michel Arcangelo, contains three frescoes painted by modern artist Pasquale Avallone. The Church of Santa Maria della Pietà holds a marvellous wooden sculpture representing the archangel Michael as he triumphs over demons. Along the river Pietra, visitors can admire an acient water mill which was stilly in use till the last century.
