Pisciotta

Surrounded by ancient olive trees and lying in the shadow of the historical Palazzo Ciaccio, the 17th century town of Pisciotta reveals some true artistic gems such as the beautiful baroque painting preserved in the Mother Church. First established during the Norman rule of the region, Pisciotta was then fortified to protect the town from pirates. The town became a battleground, in 1806, when the armies of Napoleonic France fought the Bourbons. Great events in the history of the Italian Risorgimento have taken place here, such as the previously mentioned insurrections of the Cilento area, the famous Moti, and the military campaign of Giuseppe Garibaldi, which was enthusiastically joined by many citizens of Pisciotta. For those who love a holiday by the sea, Marina di Pisciotta offers a spectacular coast line with high cliffs overlooking the sea, and Pietratata is a very popular destination for lovers of country walks and forests.
