The Municipalities of Cilento

Postiglione

This town is one of twelve municipalities located by the Alburni Mountains and it is part of the Natural Reserve of the Foce Sele-Tanagro area. The origins of the town's name are uncertain but it is established that many inhabitants of the neighbouring ancient town of Paestum, found refuge here from the Saracen incursions. The town centre is medieval, developing around the 11th century Norman Castle. Postiglione has always attracted holiday makers thanks to the mountain landscapes and its delicious traditional cuisine. Local landmarks are the Church of San Giorgio, the bell tower of San Nicola, the castle, and the monumental fountains that adorn the town centre. Lovers of the outdoors will love the country walks scattered around the Alburni mountains, the locality of Panormo, and the rivers Tanagro, Sele and Calore.
