Sacco
On the slopes of Mount Motola, in the vicinity of the spectacular landscape created by the Gola del Sammaro, lies the ancient settlement of Sacco Vecchia, abandoned in the 9th century as a result of the Arabic incursions in the area. The artefacts found in the archaeological excavations of this area are of great historical interest, as in the case of precious calyx of San Silvestro now preserved in the Museo Diocesano of the municipality of Vallo della Lucania. The head of the river Sammaro forms an enchantingly beautiful pool of crystal clear waters. Take time to visit the church of Sant'Antonio and wander around the Grotta (cave) di Jacopo, which gave shelter to a small community of Shepard’s during the Bronze age, in the 15th century BC..
