Sicignano degli Alburni
Just outside Sicignano degli Alburni is located an archaeological site where visitors can explore the remains of an ancient roman necropolis. The town was known historically simply as Sicignano only in 1923 was the name Alburni added to its official denomination, as a homage to the mountain chain that surrounds the town. During the Middle Ages the town was fortified with walls and a Castle with a polygonal plan. Castello Giusso, which owes its name to the powerful family who owned it. Also of interest are the Capuchin Convent and the Church of San Matteo with its beautiful baroque bell tower. The church contains precious artwork such as sculptures dating back to the 17th century and some renaissance paintings.
