Rutino
Rutino sits in the Alento valley, dose to were the river Alento m the Foeman, in the Cilento region. The name probably comes from the large fields of ruta (rue) which surrounded the town, although some believe the early name of Rutino was in fact Rutignum which meant to indicate the presence of a natural spring. A local legend relates to an episode in 945, when a group of religious travellers hearing the remains of Saint Matthew, witnessed the miraculous appearance of a water spring from which they gratefully drank the town centre there is the monumental church of San Michele Arcangelo, originally dedicated to Saint Matthew, but, unfortunately the church has lost most of the artwork that it once contained. Rutino is also famous for its local products such as olive oil, wine, cured meats and cheese.
